Commercial entrance with a flat walk-off mat and snow outside the cleared doorway

Facility planning guide

Plan for what winter brings through the entrance.

Snow, moisture, soil and deicing residue can change a Michiana facility’s entrances. Discuss mats, condition checks, surfaces and responsibilities before the weather changes.

01

Follow the path from outside to inside.

Identify entrance exposure, mat locations, transition surfaces and busy routes. NWS South Bend climate records give regional background; inspect the building to decide what it needs.

02

Assign operating-hours responsibility.

A recurring visit does not automatically cover wet conditions throughout the day. Agree who monitors, reports and arranges a response.

03

Protect the surface.

Confirm material and finish before selecting products or equipment. Discuss tracked-in soil and residue under the manufacturer’s care guidance.

Continue with Commercial floor care.

04

Review the seasonal allowance.

Clarify extra visits, mat handling and periodic floor work. Snow removal and exterior deicing are not automatically included in a janitorial agreement.
